Vasilina is very reluctant - even for a couple of days - to leave her house. Only the desire to see her children and grandchildren who have gone to Italy can induce her to leave home and go to visit them. Children stubbornly persuade her to stay with them, because. grandmother is already old and it is difficult for her alone. They prepared her documents for permanent residence in Italy, tried to keep her, but, despite all the Italian beauties and advantages, the grandmother was eager to return home to Moldova.
Like a bird in a golden cage, she asked God from the bottom of her heart to bring her back: “God! I beg you: do everything possible so that I can return to my home! I promise you not to miss a single Vespers, no matter what rain, sleet, cold, darkness and wind!”
Grandmother returned and from that time on she never missed a single Vespers (she never missed a Liturgy anyway). And this despite the fact that their church is on a hill, 2-3 km from Vasilina's house. And in autumn and winter it is cold, dirty and darkens early (there is no light at all in the village - at least gouge out your eyes). But Vasilina invariably reads a prayer along the way, as well as Psalm 90 and a protective prayer to the Cross.
How many have seen such old women, many of whom barely hobble, but invariably reach out to church like moths to the light, while quite healthy and young people find a bunch of excuses not to go to church. True, once Vasilina still did not keep her promise: her leg was very sore, she was literally numb, her grandmother went out the gate, but then changed her mind and returned home. Then she repented and after that she never missed a Liturgy or Vespers.
Italy. Prophetic dream
After the last trip to Italy, the grandmother did not visit her children for more than two years, despite all their persuasion. Because of this, all the documents that they prepared for her turned out to be overdue. And in the autumn of last 2013, she all of a sudden agreed, as if someone had advised her.
Grandmother Vasilina was very afraid of how she - with her shortness of breath - would endure the air flight, but all the way she felt surprisingly very light. He says he helped again. And so she flew to Italy.
Here it must be said that just before Vasilina's departure, her daughter, to whom she went, had a very strange dream:
She sees her mother in a coffin in the yard of their little old Moldavian house, which is made of clay and straw. There is a lid on the coffin. Near the coffin is their entire small family, no one else. The daughter asks: “What is it that our mother is lying in a coffin? Why is that?" and lifts the lid. And as soon as she lifted the lid, Vasilina came to life and came out of the coffin. This is where my daughter woke up.
And here is Grandma Vasilina in Italy. Everything is fine, everyone is happy with her, especially the little grandchildren.
However, not even a week had passed when, leaving the house, Vasilina suddenly turned white and lost consciousness. The daughter raised her Italian husband to his feet, and he quickly took her grandmother to the hospital. There she was brought to her senses - it turned out to be a heart attack. Immediately began to prepare for the operation.
And here the amazing Providence of God about the grandmother was revealed: it is very unlikely that the old Vasilina would have had a conscientious operation at home, given the current level of medicine in Moldova, and even more so in Transnistria, where the grandmother lives (and most importantly, given the attitude of the staff towards the sick). Who knows if anyone would have taken her to the hospital, since Vasilina lives all alone in a village far from the district center. One of her fellow villagers told how once he almost died three times in their district hospital due to an overdose of drugs due to the negligence of doctors and nurses.
And Vasilina has complete European comfort. She underwent heart surgery through an incision in her arm, introducing a probe through the veins, using some other innovative technologies.
While Vasilina was in the hospital, she copied by hand into her large notebook the entire book with the lives of the saints, which her daughter had given her. When I saw this notebook, I involuntarily remembered the monks of Athos who copied The Philokalia and other books.
It cannot be said that Vasilina completely recovered after the operation: she felt constant pain in the region of her heart, but out of humility she did not tell anyone about it, so as not to embarrass the children and doctors who had done so much for her. And perhaps this was the first stage, until the meshes of the valves that were inserted into her resolve.
After 4 months, due to the fault of the children, who decided to take their mother for a long walk around the sights of Italy, she again had an attack. Doctors scolded Vasilina's children. She underwent a second operation through the other arm, after which the pain disappeared and her former strength returned.
And again, her Italian son-in-law was very attentive to her: he urgently took her to the hospital, visited her there every day and did everything to make her feel comfortable - in general, he surrounded her with genuine care. Perhaps in our time Italy is the last European country where family values and traditions are still preserved.
Grandma says:
This is all through prayers - he helped me in everything, he advised me to come to Italy, because it was here that I had a severe heart attack, and here I had an operation.
But why Archangel Michael? After all, there were no special signs about this, as I understand it ...

And God gave strength. Every day it became easier and easier for her. Shortness of breath disappeared, and now the consequences of the operation no longer have power over her.
There are old men and women in the village who would like to, but simply physically cannot do it, and their children, who have cars, do not want extra trouble for themselves, and therefore, consider keeping their parents locked up. Vasilina speaks of such old people with pain. I know such examples.
Once we argued with her for a long time. I insisted that you should not hold on to the house and live alone - you need to leave for the children. As a last argument, knowing her sore point well, I asked:
Okay, so what are you going to do next? Someday your time will come when, no matter how much you want, you will no longer be able to get to the church. What will you do then: sit like other old people and look wistfully in the direction of the church?
